How It Works

Here are the typical steps in a photo organising project.

Whether you have a small box of photos to scan or an entire collection to organise and digitise, the process is tailored to your needs.

Step 1: Free 20-Minute Consultation

We start with a free 20-minute consultation to understand your photo collection, where it’s stored, its condition, and what your goals are.

Step 2: Personalised Plan

Together, we’ll agree on a clear, simple plan tailored to your goals and your photo collection.

Step 3: Home Visit

I will meet you at your home to take an inventory of your collection, and to fill in a basic timeline and family tree to help with the organising process.

Step 4: Organise

Your entire printed photo collection will be sorted chronologically and by special events (such as holidays, birthdays and family milestones).

The best photos – those that tell your story – will be identified, and the duplicates, blurry shots, and unnecessary clutter will be set aside.

Step 5: Scan

Your chosen photos, negatives and slides are cleaned and professionally scanned at high resolution, and saved in an easy-to-navigate folder structure.

You’ll receive your digital collection on a flash drive, ready to view or share, with guidance to create proper backups for safekeeping.

Step 6: Store

Your printed photos are stored in high-quality, archival-safe boxes to prevent future deterioration.

Everything is separated and clearly labelled with index cards, so you can easily navigate your beautifully organised collection.

“It was an absolute pleasure to work with Tanja. She took on about 60 years’ worth of jumbled up photos calmly, efficiently, and with reassuring professionalism. Her understanding of what might be important and how best to sort through all the material and then select, sort and digitise it was impressive. She did all of this with the utmost care and sensitivity and kept us informed of progress with regular reports. I would highly recommend her services.”

— Dr. Kimberley M.

“Such a good job, Tanja was friendly and professional at the same time. Delighted with the job she did for us”

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I organise my printed photos?

Organising your printed photos helps protect them from damage and makes them easier to find, enjoy and share. Instead of boxes of photos you rarely look at, you’ll have a clear, organised collection — with the option to digitise — so your memories are preserved and easy to pass on.

Some of my photos are already neatly arranged in albums — shouldn’t I leave them there?

Sticky or magnetic albums may look tidy, but they actually cause long-term damage. They can cause photos to fade, yellow, and deteriorate over time due to the plastic coverings and adhesives used. The photos can also become stuck to the pages, making them difficult to remove later. To properly protect your memories, it’s best to remove or scan photos from these albums and store them in archive-safe materials.

Do I need to sort anything before you arrive?

No — I do all the sorting for you. Simply gather all your printed materials into one place before the session.

What if my photos are damaged or stuck together?

Lightly stuck photos can often be separated using gentle techniques, such as warming the adhesive or lifting the image with dental floss. If photos are too firmly attached to the page, the entire album page can be scanned to preserve both the images and their original layout. The goal is always to protect your photos and prevent further damage.

How long will the organising process take?

It depends on the volume and condition of your collection. You’ll receive an estimated timeline after your consultation.

What if some photos feel too personal?

Your collection is treated with complete confidentiality. I do not share, discuss or show your photos to anyone.
